Creativity Lives Here – Artist Studio Awards Program
I just barely managed to get my grant application in on time for the Creativity Lives Here – Artist Studio Awards Program funded by the City of Vancouver. As usual I put way too much time into my application but so far this kind of dedication has paid off. I have participated in both group shows I applied to and earned the one and only other grant I applied for also. Fingers crossed!!
If I am awarded this grant I will get a studio and my career will open up. Currently I paint in a very small space in my living room. It is very challenging being such an expression-filled painter without a studio. Despite my best efforts there are paint drops all over my apartment. I need more space for storage and for in progress paintings. This is what my living room looks like as I type this:
I am really excited about the possibilities earning this grant would afford me. I would be able to host art classes for local low income kids which is something that I very much want to do. I will also be able to work on several large paintings at once without ruining them by stacking when they are wet (which is what I have to do now) and I will be able to start getting into 3-dimensional and large scale public artworks. I am currently at the limit of what I can accomplish in the space I have and there is so much more I want to do!
My fingers are crossed….wish me luck!
